Sexual Assault

Sexual Assault is never the victim’s fault

Acquaintance, date or marital rape is as real as stranger rape

Only 20% of rapes are “stranger rape.” 45% of rape victims are raped by husbands, ex-husbands or male family members/relatives. 30% of rape victims are assaulted by other acquaintances.

You may help other women by reporting your rape.

What to do if you are raped

  1. Call a friend or family member who will give you emotional support.
  2. Go to the hospital immediately for treatment of any injuries and for tests.  This can provide important medical evidence.  Don’t douche, bathe or change clothes before you go.
  3. Seek counseling.

The Domestic Violence Program offers counseling for victims of sexual assault. We offer individual counseling and support groups.

If you would like to make an appointment for an individual counseling session, please call our office.  The Sexual Assault Support Group is available. Call 896-2012 for more information.
