Children's Services

We have support group for the children every Thursday night from 6:00—7:30 at our office on Memorial Blvd. The age groups for the children are broken into 3—5 year olds, 6—9, and 10—up. We also have activities for toddlers, and we can care for infants while the women are in the adult group. Topics we focus on include Self Esteem, Feelings, Anger, Assertiveness, and Problem Solving. The group involves 12 weeks of topics, and the child will receive a certificate at the end of 12 weeks if they have attended all of the group sessions. We provide a snack for the children during group, so it is not necessary to bring them anything to eat.

The children at the shelter are provided an assortment of different activities during their stay. The Child Advocate has an after school program to help the children with their homework and make sure they get an after school snack. There are also support group sessions for the children at the shelter, as well as individual counseling sessions with the Child Advocate if needed. There will also be other fun activities and crafts planned for the children while they are staying at the shelter.

The First Baptist Church hosts a Christmas party for us every year for our past clients of that particular year. It has always been a huge success, and I expect this year to be no different. We are in need of sponsors to adopt families and buy gifts from their wish list. If you or your organization is interested in adopting a family, or want more information, feel free to contact us. Ask for Heather Edwards or Teneal Ivery.
